Liz grew up inland in Connecticut and summered in Cape Cod. Every summer included whale watching, dinghy sailing, long hikes, and from there she started to develop her passion for the sea. In university Liz studied Marine Sciences and Evolutionary Biology and Ecology. She worked in a plankton lab and a fish ecology lab for two and half years. Her passion for the sea grew but she knew she had to be out on the water.
In college, she was a big fan of the On the Wind Podcast. She met Andy & Mia for the first time at the 2015 Annapolis Boat Show. After the show, they had a Happy Hour on ISBJORN, and Liz expressed how keen she was to get into ocean sailing but did not know how to start.
After this meeting and a short email correspondence Liz became 59 North's first-ever staff!
After Liz obtained her degree and finished her internship with 59 North she moved to Newport, RI with aspirations of becoming a rigger. She worked as a rigger at Grand Prix rig shop Gorilla Rigging for two and a half years, worked on super yachts in Palma, Newport, and the Caribbean, including the famous J/Class SVEA, the iconic Frers-designed ketch REBECCA, the classic TICONDEROGA and race boats including a former Volvo 60. She raced and delivered classics, and completed a Caribbean race circuit.
In January of 2018 Liz saved the day when we blew up the spinnaker during the trans-At, bought a new one in Newport and got it to Antigua in time for the Carib 600 race. That was when we asked the question "Do you want to be the full-time mate on ISBJORN?”
Liz is an avid beach goer, sun worshipper, and has a connection with the sea and a deep yoga practice. Liz starts her first full season with ISBJORN January 2020!
